Web Wars

Google has launched a completely new way to to crawl and index the web. They’ve released a new search algorithm. What that means is they are altering the way they currently rank  websites so the search feeds you get are different.

They’ve announced:

For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search. It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions.

Basically it amounts to an upgrade of Google Search. The project’s still incomplete, but Google’s  happy with its new version of its search engine that it has released its development version for the public .
This new project is called – Google Caffeine. It seems to be in competition with Bing by Microsoft which was released somewhat earlier. It was stealing some market share from Google and was proving a fiercer competitor than other search engines.  However Caffeine was an already happening project when Bing came out.

It looks like Facebook is fighting Twitter and Google Caffeine is competing with Bing. In addition I believe Google Chrome is an alternative for Mozilla’s free browser. However I don’t think I’d ever abandon Firefox like I did with Netscape and Internet Explorer.

Questions:

Is Caffeine an improvement on Bing?

Is Facebook’s real-time search going to be of any use or do you think now Facebook and Twitter will be duplicates of each other?

What’s are your favourite & hated browsers & why?

Also if you’ve used Google Chrome, what’s your impression of it?
